In conventional engines, when the piston reaches its highest point (Top Dead Center or TDC), there is a slight delay before the combustion energy is fully converted into motion. During this fraction of a second, precious energy is lost.
His revolutionary idea was to offset this. Shailendra conceptualized a new design where the TDC is shifted from 0 degrees to 60 degrees. This change ensures that the moment the fuel ignites, the piston is already in a position to transfer the maximum force to the crankshaft, drastically reducing power loss and boosting efficiency.
A Grueling 18-Year Journey of Struggle and Sacrifice
Armed with this brilliant concept, Shailendra’s struggle began. In 2007, he approached giants like Tata Motors and top institutions like IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi, hoping for support. But everywhere he went, he was met with skepticism and rejection. Experts told him his idea was impossible. One institute even gave him in writing that his desired results could not be achieved.
But Shailendra refused to give up. For 18 long years, he poured everything he had into his research. He sold his land, took loans from friends and relatives, and at one point, couldn’t even pay his rent for 15 months. The financial strain was immense; he lived for years without a cooler in the scorching heat, saving every penny to fund his project. His daughter stood by him, assisting him in his research as he toiled from 7 AM to 9 PM every single day, trying to perfect his engine.
The Sweet Victory: 176 KMPL Achieved
After countless failures, broken parts, and sleepless nights, his perseverance paid off. He conducted experiments on multiple bikes. A modified Bajaj Platina gave a mileage of 120 kmpl. Another bike touched 126 kmpl. Finally, during a road test on a third modified motorcycle, he achieved the incredible milestone of 176 kmpl.
To ensure transparency and credibility, Shailendra always had his tests verified by third parties. Today, he holds two patents for his groundbreaking technology.
